Important Guidelines to Remember
-
WATER
As weather allows, All Saints will provide collected rain water to gardeners to help water their garden. Water provided for the garden is collected rain water from the church roof. It is pumped from rain totes along the church building to the three totes located in the garden to be used to water plants. If mother nature does not provide sufficient rain to fill the collection totes, gardeners are expected to bring their own water.
Gardeners have access to the three totes in the garden to water their plants. Rain collection totes by the church are for rain collection and are to be handled by church volunteers ONLY.
When using a garden tote to water your garden, help your garden and all gardeners by conserving water. Thank you for notifying the church immediately of any leaks in the garden totes. Your garden only needs to be watered every other day. If it has rained, your garden probably does not need to be watered. A general rule of thumb is to stick a finger in the soil, if the soil is moist and sticks to the finger, watering is not needed. Have healthy plants by avoiding over watering! Over watering promotes root rot and bug infestations. Actively monitor the garden tote spigots while filling watering cans. Do not leave watering cans unattended while filling them so that no water is wasted. Thank you!
-
GARDEN ACCESS
This year, gardeners are able to use the garden starting on May 15, 2025. Please coordinate with your fellow gardeners to make sure the gate is closed securely and locked, and all water totes taps are closed/not leaking. An open gate means deer may get in and jeopardize all gardens! Children and teens under 18 are welcome if supervised by a parent or guardian. Please instruct children to walk on the pathways and respect the plots of others. Pets are not allowed in the garden.
-
PLOT MAINTENANCE & NEGLECTED PLOTS
Come regularly to weed, water, prune, stake, mulch, and harvest. Remove any plants that are dead or dying. All plots will be monitored and you will be notified if plot maintenance falls below Garden standards. If there is little improvement after two notifications, you may be directed to forfeit your plot. If you realize beforehand that you won’t be able to fulfill your obligations for the season, contact the church, who can reassign your plot to someone on the waiting list or possibly coordinate temporary maintenance help for you.

VOLUNTEER DAY
On Saturday, May 10 join us at 8 a.m. in the community garden to top off our garden beds with new soil! Bring shovels and wagons/wheelbarrows! Our goal is to top off all beds with as many people in the quickest time possible. Afterwards, there will be refreshments and food in the Church’s community room.
-
PLOT ASSIGNMENTS
Plots are assigned on a first come, first serve basis after the application and payment are received.
Returning gardeners who did not properly maintain or clean up their plots the previous year may have their applications placed on hold, with preference given to new gardeners or returning gardeners with good maintenance records. After all plots are claimed, hopeful applicants can choose to be placed on a waiting list for a possible forfeited plot.

DISEASE CONTROL
We value organic gardening practices. Use methods that protect pollinators and other beneficial organisms in the Garden. Herbicides (weed killers) are prohibited, including Round-up and Preen. Use of floating row covers to prevent feeding damage and egg-laying is encouraged. When a pesticide to control insects, mites, or fungi is necessary, Neem Oil is an option. Diatomaceous earth is permitted as an insecticide and GreenCure as a fungicide. Both are organic.
-
LAYOUT
Individual plots are 4′ wide by 12′ long and half plots are 4' wide by 6' long. Grass pathways surround the perimeter of each plot.
-
RESTROOMS
The church building is open during business hours Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enter the building with clean shoes through the office door.
-
FERTILIZERS (plant food)
Organic and synthetic products are allowed.
-
WASTE
Add healthy plant waste to the compost bin. Chop or cut in pieces no more than one foot long. Place weeds and diseased plant waste in the “Yard Waste” trash containers. Throw away squash and tomato vines; do not compost them or else monster squash will grow everywhere! Place any inorganic waste (plastics, metal) in a trash container.
-
CLEANLINESS
We encourage gardeners to participate in the common good of the garden by helping out with common tasks such as turning compost, putting tools away, keeping the garden clean, making sure water totes are leak free and off when not in use etc.
-
PLANTING
Gardeners provide their own plants and/or seeds. Check garden overhang for shared seeds that may be available. Choose plants that will not shade other plots (no corn or sunflowers) or extend beyond your plot’s boundaries when mature. Prune or trellis plants if they begin to block paths.
-
STRUCTURES
Supports such as stakes, tomato cages, and trellises are permitted, but not a fence that encloses your plot. No structure may extend beyond your individual plot area. Low tunnels to extend the season and floating row covers are permitted.
-
EQUIPMENT
Gardeners need to bring their own garden gloves, trowels, and their own stakes and cages. Sprinkling cans and some tools (shovels, rake, garden fork, loppers, pruners, etc.) are available for shared use in the garage. Tool donations are accepted.
-
HARVESTING
Our goal as a no-waste garden is to have all healthy produce find its way to someone’s plate. Ideally every gardener would pick their own produce for home use and possibly donate at least 10% to the Grace Place Food Pantry at All Saints.
-
FALL CLEAN-UP
Remove plots of all roots and plants and place them in the compost no later than Halloween Day unless an extension is granted by the church. Dispose of tomato and squash vines and anything diseased in the trash (do not compost).
-
CONFLICTS
Please responsibly and respectfully resolve conflicts directly and immediately as adults. When engaged in a disagreement remember that disagreements happen and are a part of being in caring relationships. Also consider Jesus' teaching: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If additional support is needed to help resolve a conflict please then bring it to the attention of the church.
-
DONATING EXTRA PRODUCE
If you have extra produce during harvest, donate it to the Grace Place. This is the food, clothing, and hygiene pantry run by All Saints Episcopal Church and Southwest Community Based Services. The Grace Place operates on a grace economy. People give what they can and take what they need. Help provide produce or make other food, hygiene, clothing, or financial donations in order to help your neighbors. Any produce not used by visitors will be disposed of the following week in order to keep down mold and bugs.
-
GARDEN HUB / GARAGE OVERHANG
The Garage Overhang will be a place for Community Garden News. This space will also house a seed bank where you can look through and take seeds for your use or donate seeds for others to consider using. There will be a limited supply of Community Garden tools stored here. Use them and make sure to put them back. Help keep the garden organized and helpful for all.
-
PARKING
Please park adjacent to the garden in the parking lot.
-
TOBACCO
Most tobacco products carry the tobacco mosaic virus, which is readily transmitted to tomato and pepper plants. All tobacco products must remain outside the garden.
