SAINT MATTHIAS:
The book represents this apostle's missionary work in Judea. The words "super
Mathium" or "uponMatthias" refer to his having been chosen
by a casting of lots to replace Judas Iscariot. The lot fell upon Matthias.He
is said to have been beheaded..
SAINT MARK:
The winged lion is the symbol for this evangelist because his Gospel teaches
us of the royal dignity of Christ.
SAINT MATTHEW:
The winged man is the symbol for this evangelist because his Gospel teaches
us about the human nature of Christ.
OAK:
Oak is the symbol for faith and endurance.
