SAINT ANDREW:
Tradition says that while this apostle was preaching in Greece, he was put
to death on a cross of this type, also known as a saltire. He requested
to be crucified on a cross unlike that of his Lord..
SAINT MATTHEW:
As an apostle Matthew is symbolized by three moneybags due to his original
occupation as a tax collector.
SAINT PATRICK:
Legend says that Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, used his bishop's
staff (crozier) to drive the snakes out of Ireland. He is said to have used
the shamrock to explain the Trinity in his teachings..
CLOVER:
With its three leaves on one stem the clover is a symbol for the Trinity.
